“OUR DEBT TO THE HEROIC MEN AND VALIANT WOMEN IN THE SERVICE OF OUR COUNTRY CAN NEVER BE REPAID. THEY HAVE EARNED OUR UNDYING GRATITUDE. AMERICA WILL NEVER FORGET THEIR SACRIFICES. “
Last Saturday I went to Normandy and visited the American Cemetary there. it looks out over the D-day beaches. France gave the land to the United States, so it is on American soil. Over 9,000 Americans are buried there, most of them died during the D-day invasions. About some 300 are unknowns, three are Medal of Honour winners and four are women. There are 33 pairs of brothers buried side by side.
On the hour the clock plays with chimes “My Country tis of thee” I thought the cemetery was beautiful and moving.
