Then something happened. something difficult to describe. Sitting there, alone in a foreign country, far from my job and everyone I know, a feeling came over me. It was like remembering something I'd never known before or had always been waiting for, but I didn't know what. Maybe it was something I'd forgotten or something I've been missing all my life. All I can say is that I felt, at the same time, joy and sadness. But not too much sadness, because I felt alive. Yes, alive.

That was the moment I fell in love with Paris. And I felt Paris fall in love with me.

Arrête! C’est ici l’empire de la mort.
Stop! This is the empire of death.

Went to the catacombs today. The entrance is just this little blue door across from a Metro station. Once you enter, you climb down a tight spiral staircase for ever. Then at the bottom, you have to walk through 500 meters of tunnels to get to the actual catacombs.
Right before you enter is where the sign says this is the empire of death. You cant take flash photography down there, so I could not get a good picture. The two above are from the only section with lights on it, so you could take a decent photo without a flash.
Its insane, the amount of bones down there. There is nothing stopping you from touching them, but i don’t know why you would want to. You spend like 45min wandering around through tunnels with bones stacked up.
To leave you have to climb another spiral staircase, it is really high and you cant see when it is going to end. They have a defibrillator at the top, I guess some people don’t make it. luckily they can just bury them there.
Also when you leave they check your bags/coat to see if you have taken anything. On the table at the check point, there was skull and a couple other misc bones…meaning someone had tried to those and gotten caught.
