bordeaux

This weekend was our first excursion trip to Bordeaux. We went to three chateaus while we were there. Every where else in France chateau means castle but in Bordeaux it is a winery/vineyard. Two of the vineyards when when to were premier crus, only 25 vineyards are ranked in this category. One was a Sauterne, a sweet wine, I thought it was good but it was very sweet and im not sure I could drink a full glass. A bottle of it costs about 70 euros.
The second one we went to was Château Pape Clément. It was owned by a former Pope of Avigon. They are most known from their red wines. Bottles start at 100 euros and up. The red wine here was amazing, if I had the money I would have bought a bottle.
The third vineyard was very small and family owned. They were a lot of fun and made lots of jokes, the tasting was much less formal than the previous places. They produced both white and red wines on their property. Everyone bought a bottle from them because it only cost around 5 euros.
We had our valentines day dinner as a group. Every where else in the restaurant it was tables for two and then our giant table for nine. It was a three course meal. I had frog legs as an appetizer. They didn’t taste bad, they weren’t amazing either. They’re rather difficult to eat because they have tiny little frog bones in them. The main course was a steak with foie gras on top. I ate the foie gras but I didn’t think it was that great. Finally we ended with crème brûlée. Frog legs, foie gras, and crème brûlée…I think it was a very french meal.
I’ve got a few more pictures on my flickr, once again click the link on the pictures to see.
